Research Areas
Our lab interest is cilia, a specialized cell organelles which are constituted by the microtubule. As the protrusions from cell surface, cilia and flagella (which are synonymous) are found to play vital roles in cell motility, cell signaling, and cell differentiation. The defects of cilia structures and functions lead to a group of genetic disease called ciliopathy, with clinic features such as obesity, polydactyly, retinal dystrophy, kidney dysfunction and so on. Current study also reveals the functions of cilia in diabetes and cancer. Chlamydomonas are the powerful tool to study cilia. It has privilege live cell imaging and biochemical analysis. In Our lab focuses on: 1. The transcriptional regulation of genes that are required for ciliogenesis. 2. The molecular mechanisms of ciliopathy such as Barnet-Biedl syndrome and polycystic kidney disease.
Key words:cilia; Chlamydomonas; ciliopathy; BBS; PKD; IFT;Gene Transcription.
